In general tropical rainforests have more kinds of tree species than any other forest types in the world, around 2,500 species in total. Comparing all the tropical regions of the world the Amazon forests are the richest in plant species. Actually more than one third of all species in the world live in the Amazon. Moreover the Amazon Basin forest is the largest of all tropical rainforests, covering 6 million sq km.
At the end of March 2008 there were a grand total of 45,110,363 hectares of FSC certified forest in America issued on 394 certificates. Of this The United States constituted 9,975,780 hectares issued on 103 certificates. Canada constituted 23,592,610 hectares issued on 40 certificates.
