AFRICAN SPECIES
To your left you will find a list of the lesser known African species.
The tropical forests of West and Central Africa have the fewest species of trees compared to other tropical regions of the world. But even here the diversity in species is high compared to other forest types. The Con-golian coastal forests are said to be the richest in species of the African tropics. Moreover the Congo Basin as a whole constitutes the world’s second largest rain forest.
At the end of March 2008 there were a grand total of 3,011,293 hectares of FSC certified forest in Africa issued on 40 certificates.
