ABOUT THIS SITEThis website is an introduction to lesser known species from the tropical regions of the world. It includes a selection of species, which have been chosen because of their commercial possibilities and potential. The primary aim of the site is to increase the knowledge and utilization of the numerous species growing in the tropical forests of the world. The description of each species is sufficient to provide only a general idea of its nature and uses. In the right site of each species you will find links to a more detailed technical information about each particular species. Wood is a natural material with colour and grain variations, and it may differ in some degree from the typical but specific colour plates. For the same reasons variations in physical properties and the behaviour of the wood can also occur. For the technical data, reliance has been placed on a variety of authoritative sources. In this context we would like to especially give thanks to Precious Woods, Danish Technological Institute, and CIRAD, the French agricultural research centre working for international development, for their support in creating this site. 15 of the species presented on this site is also avaliable in a book format.
